Nikolaous Polychroniou, a sophomore at USC representing Greece, finished fifth in the men's hammer throw final with a personal-best 238-4 (72.65m) effort in the fifth round at the NCAA Division 1 Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Polychroniou was one of two Greek athletes to earn All-America first-team honors, along with Minnesota's Kostas Zaltos placing second with a lifetime-best 250-5 (76.33m) performance.
